By filling a discharge tube with CO2 and other auxiliary gases, and applying a high voltage across the electrodes, a glow discharge is generated within the tube; this process causes the gas molecules to emit laser light. Once this emitted laser energy has been amplified, it can be utilized for laser processing applications. The CO2 laser is a type of gas laser that produces a wavelength of 10.6 μm, falling within the mid-infrared spectral band.
